– New Country Mini doubles the amount collected last year to help city schools-
(HARTFORD, CT)- August 31, 2016– Hundreds of Hartford Public School students were able to start the year off right with brand new backpacks filled with donations from New Country Motor Cars 3rd Annual “Stuff a MINI to the Max” campaign. Six MINI Cooper cars jammed with school supplies rolled into the Family Services of Hartford Public Schools Welcome Center on August 29th, where they were greeted by crowds of children, parents and Hartford officials.
Representatives from Hartford schools, Beth Schiavino Narvaez, Ed.D., Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools, Richard Wareings, President of the Hartford Board of Education, Jose Colon Rivas, Chief Operations Officer of Hartford Public Schools, Craig Stallings, Secretary to the Hartford Board of Education and Tiffany Glanville, Vice President of the Hartford Board of Education were on hand to personally thank the New Country MINI employees. Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and State Representative Minnie Gonzalez were also there to show their appreciation.
“Thanks to Greg Shimer, District Manager of Staples, and our media sponsor Channel 3, we doubled the amount of supplies we collected last year!” exclaimed Sam Herman, Sales Manager of New Country MINI Cooper. “We are indebted to them and the members of our community who generously donated to help these students.”
Donations were accepted at the New Country dealership in Hartford and at Staples stores in Glastonbury, West Hartford, Newington and Vernon during the month of August. Additionally, Channel 3 hosted a supply drive at the station in Rocky Hill on August 16th.
New Country MINI created the program to ensure Hartford teachers and students are prepared for class and to ease the financial burden on city parents. Approximately 21,000 students were enrolled in Hartford Public Schools in 2013-14, of whom 84.6% were low-income.
“We are so grateful to our friends at New Country for holding this collection for us once again,” said Marta Bentham, Director of Family Services & Ombudsman of Hartford Public Schools’ Welcome Center. “Their caring, personal support has been invaluable to our families over the years.”
